This week in Madona – the world’s sidecar motocross elite and the European quadcross championship

12.08.2025

This weekend, August 16–17, the “Smeceres sils” motocross track in Madona will, for the first time, host a round of the Sidecar Motocross World Championship and the European Quadcross Championship, bringing together around 80 athletes from 13 countries. Latvia will be represented by four sidecar crews – including local heroes Bruno and Daniels Lielbārži – as well as four quad riders.

In total, the event will see about 30 sidecar crews and 19 quad riders from across Europe at the starting gate. Representing Latvia in the sidecar class will be Bruno and Daniels Lielbārži, Rihards Rupeiks/Roberts Užāns, Jurģis Mačs/Artis Fjodorovs, and Kaspars Lubgans/Oskars Dūdens. In the quad class, Latvia will be represented by Kārlis Neija, Reinis Bicāns, Kārlis Lizanders, and Iļja Dektjarjovs.

Local pride – brothers Bruno and Daniels Lielbārži – currently 5th in the World Championship standings, say that racing at home will be something special: “Racing on our home track, with our fans along the trackside – it’s a great honour and a huge motivation. An event of this scale is happening in Madona for the first time, and we want to show our very best performance. Together with the fans, we can create an atmosphere we will all remember for a long time,” the brothers emphasise.

This will be the second full season for quad rider Kārlis Neija, who is currently 7th in the overall standings but with real chances to fight for a higher position in the remaining two rounds: “The prestige of these competitions has grown significantly in recent years – the European Championship is a high-level event where the fastest riders from each country compete. The Madona track has been completely redeveloped, with significant work invested. Its terrain and width will guarantee exciting and unpredictable races for spectators to enjoy."

Event Director Kaspars Ērkulis notes: “This will not be just another round – it is a chance for Madona to become part of the world motorsport calendar. Even in this first year, the plan is for the Sidecar Motocross World Championship to return to this track in the future, so it’s crucial to prove we can host the event at the right level and create a true motorsport festival.”

On Saturday, qualifying races will take place for both sidecars and quads, while Sunday will bring the decisive moments – two sidecar races, with the combined results determining the round winner, and two quad races. On Sunday morning, at 10:30, fans will have the chance to attend the sidecar and quad rider presentation and get autographs before the battles begin.

On Saturday evening, the adrenaline will be complemented by a music programme – at 19:00 the motocross opening will feature Lithuanian indie rock band Colors of Bubbles, followed at 21:00 by club classics from DJ [EX] da Bass and cellist Erna Daugaviete. There will also be activities for children throughout the event.
