On 25–26 July 2026, the “Smeceres sils” motocross track in Madona, Latvia will host a round of the FIM Sidecar Motocross World Championship. For the first time, the event will also include a round of the Quad Motocross World Championship, bringing together two world-level competitions in the same weekend.
This means that next summer motorsport fans will have the opportunity to witness world-class racing in two disciplines during the same weekend. Following the historic success in 2025, when Daniels and Bruno Lielbārži claimed their first-ever home victory in a World Championship round, while Latvian riders secured a double podium finish in the quad class (Reinis Bicāns – silver, Kārlis Neija – bronze), an even more ambitious event is expected in Madona.
“The season is already very close – only two weeks remain until our first start in the French Championship, so preparations are in full swing. In February we held a training camp in Spain, where we worked extensively on riding technique and physical fitness. At the same time, we are also focusing on rebuilding and improving the machinery to start the season in the best possible shape. The home round in Madona is always one of the most special races of the season, and this year will be no exception,” emphasise twin brothers Daniels and Bruno Lielbārži.
No less excitement is expected in the quad races, where two Latvian riders stood on the podium in the European Championship classification during the 2025 round.
“The start in Madona will definitely be one of the most important races of the season for me. It will be the first time the event counts towards the World Championship classification, and it will take place on the well-known “Smeceres sils” track. That gives extra motivation to prepare for the season, and hopefully we will once again be able to deliver a strong result,” says Reinis Bicāns, 2nd place in the 2025 Madona round.
“During the off-season we have worked a lot on both physical preparation and improvements to the bike. The goal for the new season is to be consistent and give our maximum at every round. The Madona track is very familiar to me, so it will certainly be an important race,” says Kārlis Neija, bronze medalist of the 2025 Madona round and fourth place finisher in last year’s overall championship standings.
Long-term ambitions: keeping Madona on the global motorsport map
The Chairman of the Madona Municipality Council and Vice-President of the Latvian Motorsport Federation, Agris Lungevičs, emphasises that “Smeceres sils” has already proven its ability to host events of this level on a regular basis.
“In 2025 we proved that we are not only capable of hosting a world-class motocross event, but also of organising it at a very high professional level. The success of Latvian riders brought thousands of fans to their feet. From the very beginning, when we aimed to enter the championship calendar, we planned for the long term – to keep Madona on the global motorsport map. This year the programme will become even more powerful, as for the first time alongside the Sidecar Motocross World Championship round, Madona will also host World Championship competition in the quad class. This means a larger scale event, more riders and more international fans. Events like this develop regional infrastructure, strengthen tourism and inspire the younger generation to take up motorsport,” says A. Lungevičs.
The Sidecar Motocross World Championship season will begin on 18–19 April in France, followed by a series of rounds across Europe. The Madona round will be the ninth of the season, while the final 13th round will take place in France at the end of September.
Meanwhile, the quad championship season will also start in April, together with the sidecar series. Madona will host the seventh round of the championship, while the season finale is scheduled for late September in France.
