World Sidecar Motocross Championship and European Quadcross Championship coming to Madona’s iconic “Smeceres sils” track for the first time

11.06.2025

On August 16–17, 2025, the Smeceres sils motocross track in Madona will, for the first time, host a round of the World Sidecar Motocross Championship and the European Quadcross Championship, attracting at least 60 riders from 15 countries. This is the most significant international motorsport event ever held in the Madona region — made even more exciting by the fact that Latvian riders, including brothers Bruno and Daniels Lielbārži and quad rider Kārlis Neija, will be among the contenders for podium places.

Latvia’s home favourites, Bruno and Daniels Lielbārži, admit that their season didn’t start as planned, but racing in front of their home crowd will be special. They comment: “Racing on our home track, with our fans along the sidelines – it’s a great honour. It will definitely motivate us to fight for a top result! But we’re not getting ahead of ourselves – Madona means a lot to us. This is where our professional journey began. It will be amazing to see the world’s motocross elite racing through these familiar surroundings!”

The Madona event will be the penultimate — 7th round of this year’s World Sidecar Motocross Championship calendar. Riders will arrive in Madona following the previous round in Belgium at the end of July. “I don’t see this as just another race — it’s a long-term opportunity for Madona to become part of the world motorsport calendar,” says Race Director Kaspars Ērkulis. “The track is being prepared to meet the highest standards. Spectators can expect a quality motorsport show, while the riders will face a technically challenging and visually spectacular track.”

“An event of this scale proves that Madona is capable of hosting world-class motorsport competitions,” says Agris Lungevičs, Chairman of Madona Municipality Council and Vice President of the Latvian Motorsport Federation. “The “Smeceres sils” infrastructure and our organising team have consistently shown their ability to host both European and world-level events across all seasons. We also see the crucial role this plays in developing the region’s tourism and hospitality sectors, attracting both international and local visitors around the event calendar. Moreover, with this event, we have the ambition to continue hosting it in the future — not just this year — as event organisation also drives infrastructure development, which in turn supports the growth of local athletes.”

On Saturday, the programme will feature qualifying races for both sidecar motocross and quadcross classes. On Sunday, the decisive action will take place:

·       two sidecar motocross races, with the overall result determining the round winner;

·       two quadcross races, where Latvian rider Kārlis Neija — who secured 5th place in the European Championship last season — will be a strong contender.

Saturday evening will offer even more adrenaline with a culture program: at 19:00 the motocross opening concert will feature Lithuanian indie rock band Colors of Bubbles, followed at 21:00 by club classics from DJ [EX] da Bass in collaboration with cellist Erna Daugaviete. More details to follow.

The event is organised by Madona Municipality in cooperation with the Latvian Motorsport Federation, with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Latvia
