This past weekend, the fifth round of the Sidecar Motocross World Championship took place in Lommel, Belgium. Latvia’s top crew – brothers Daniels and Bruno Lielbārži – secured 5th place overall from the two races and moved up to 6th position in the championship standings.

In Saturday’s qualifying session, the Lielbārži brothers finished second in their group, which granted them fourth gate pick for Sunday’s races. On race day, the crew faced not only strong competition but also extreme heat and technical challenges – the sandy Lommel track quickly formed a single fast line, making overtaking difficult, and there were also issues with goggles.

As the riders shared: “Another round of the World Championship is done – this time in the sandy track of Lommel. After the previous round in Poland, we were hoping to deliver another strong result. Sunday was very hot, but we were prepared for it. We didn’t get good starts in either races, which is crucial on this track as the fast line forms quickly and overtaking becomes difficult. We also had goggle problems in both races and had to enter the mechanic zone, losing time. We finished 7th and 5th in the motos, which gave us 5th overall for the day and helped us move up in the championship ranking. We’re satisfied with our pace and are hoping for strong results in the remaining rounds.”

Victory in Belgium went to the team of Etienne and Robbie Bax, who won both races. Second place in both races was taken by the Leferink brothers, while third overall went to Brett Wilkinson and Joe Millard from the UK. Current championship leaders Koen Hermans and Ben van den Bogaart placed 9th overall in Lommel.

The next round of the World Championship will take place on 19–20 July in Rudersberg, Germany. One month later – on 16–17 August – the penultimate round of the World Championship will be held for the first time in Madona, Latvia, at the “Smeceres sils” motocross track. This event will also host the European Quadcross Championship round, bringing together 60 athletes from 15 countries.
